Thankful...

I just have to say, I am so thankful and appreciative to everyone who has continued to help my business grow. I have been so overwhelmed... in a VERY GOOD WAY.

As many people out there understand right now, getting laid off just brings a person down. Going from working eight to five, five days a week to nothing was really hard for me to come to terms with. I remember when it first happened, it felt more like I was on a vacation from work but I'd be going back. I had only held that job for about five months. After all, I left a job for that one. Most people are probably thinking, "that's when you get off your butt and start looking for a job!" Well, my problem is that I didn't want to do anything else but what I was already doing! There aren't a ton of invitation companies out there. I guess the stubborn side got the best of me because I was determined to do it on my own. I was just really afraid of the business aspect. I just like to design. Can't I just do that? Oh yeah, I guess there's a lot more that goes into it. =) That's where my fiancĂ©, Steve, comes in handy! I know I would not be where I am right now, if it weren't for him. He has stood behind me from the get-go and he continues to encourage me and give me advice every day. All of this is still such a work in progress, but I'm not giving up. There's nothing better than waking up every morning and doing what I love! I can't believe it's possible to get paid for something you love so much! These past few months have been a true blessing. God definitely has a plan. I guess I just had to wait for things to fall into place without trying to enforce my own!  I know I'm still learning so much but I'm loving every minute of it along the way. God works in amazing ways. =)

Today I'm posting some more fold-over stationery. I want to let everyone know that while I do custom design everything on request, if you see anything on my blog that you would like for yourself or as a gift for someone, please let me know! I can just add your name and even change the colors if you'd like. Just email me and I'll get your order processed pretty fast.

Thanks again, everyone, for your continued support!

To make a short story, long...

I grew up in a town where creativity is a must in order to keep busy. Henderson, Texas isn't your typical town of attractions. Whether I was building a fort outside with imaginary elevators or pretending to be a mermaid in my swimming pool, I truly had a mind of my own. Having two older sisters, who were too old to play with me, might have had something to do with it too. My mom gets credit as well. She's an amazing artist. I used to steal her old sketchbooks and draw all over the pages. I probably ruined them, but I wanted to be just as good as her.

Fast forward to 2009. I have now graduated from TCU and have held two jobs since then. Both gave me opportunities to explore my creative side and for that I am thankful. I left the first job in order to get closer to my first love, invitation design. The new job didn't give me much opportunity to design, but I was learning a lot about another important technique, typesetting. Unfortunately, that job was short lived. I was laid off in October, due to the bad economy. On the day I left that company, the CFO said to me, "We don't sell food." He was right. Invitations are not essential to our lives, but I can't just walk away from something I love so much. As heartbroken as I was to leave that job, I know God has a plan for me. Continuing on as a Typesetter just wasn't it.

The week I was laid off, my parents were gracious enough to buy me a brand new iMac with all the design programs I need to continue exploring my passion. I think they believe in me and that's an amazing feeling. I do not have another steady paying job. But, I do have a job, and that is to learn anything and everything about this passion of mine; to explore the creativity I have to offer. And along the way, hopefully people will see how important it is to me.

I hope you will take a few seconds to look at some of my work and the different projects I have been working on. And, if you like my work and need invitations, announcements, or stationery, shoot me an email. I'd love to create a special card just for you! If you're still not convinced, all I can ask is that you at least take a chance on me. I will do my best to make you a happy customer!
