Blessing Shower

I recently designed an invitation for a Blessing Shower. This was neat because you can't really find pre-made shower invitations out there that are made specifically for Blessing Showers. After trying a few designs that I didn't really like one day, I went for a run and that's when the idea of incorporating 1 Corinthians 13:13 came to me. =) So funny how I can sit here for hours some days but then the ideas come to me while I'm taking a shower or running or some other random place that's not in front of my computer or sketchbook.

Stationery Orders!

Thanks to all of you who have ordered stationery recently! I've had fun working on it and I'm still designing more for other people who have ordered. If some of you see the stationery on here that I designed for you, I changed the names on a few because I know they are being given as gifts!

Anyone who decides to order stationery from me, I can design fold-over or flat cards.  It's your choice! The fold-over cards are 5.5 x 8.5 and the flat cards are 5x7 or 5.5 x 4.25.

My creative and thoughtful fiancé...

First of all, today is my 24th birthday and my fiance, Steve, has done an amazing job of making today a special day. Here's the story.

About three days ago I got an email from Steve's best friend, Justin Holland. In Justin's email he asked me if I could design a special card for his wife Neely. He said that next week he was going to take her to get some custom boots made and wanted me to create a card with a design on the front. He asked me to keep the back of the card blank so he could write a special letter. I got really excited about designing it! I was also secretly jealous of the new boots she was going to get! I designed it the following day, sent a proof to him, and waited for his approval. He liked it, so I had it printed and then gave it to Steve to mail and that was that... so I thought.

This morning Steve woke up, made me breakfast, and then went into his room to get my present. He gave me a card to open and then said, "You have to open your card before your present." All I could see was a card. I opened the card and to my surprise, it was the card I had created for Justin, plus $50! I was a little confused at first, but I turned it over to read the back.

Here is the message that was written on the back:

"Lesa, I couldn't think of a better person to make your bday card than you! Here's $50 for the time you spent on this. We can go to Lusky's (a boot store in the Fort Worth Stockyards) and pick out your custom boots whenever you're ready today. Happy Birthday. I love you, Steve."

Great teamwork Justin and Steve!! What a thoughtful way to surprise me and what an amazing gift!! We just got back from designing the boots! My favorite part of the design... my initials on one side of the boot straps and our wedding date on the other! My least favorite part... the fact that it takes 3-5 months to get the boots

An answered prayer...

I just want to say thank-you to all of you who have contacted me about my blog. It really took me awhile to "put myself out there," but I am so happy I did. Even more, thank-you to those who have placed orders or sent my blog to friends! This truly is an answered prayer and I'm so blessed to have such amazing friends.

Have a great weekend!

A Recipe Shower!

A sweet, sweet friend of mine, Neely Holland, has asked me to make a Recipe Shower invitation. She and a few of her college friends are throwing a shower for one of their friends. Neely has been so sweet to ask me to do this. I created four different designs and from there the girls chose which one they wanted to use.

I am so blessed to have Neely's friendship and so happy she trusts me to create the perfect card for the shower.

Bridesmaid Letters...

As some of you may know, I got engaged recently. I spent two months trying to decide how I wanted to ask each of my bridesmaids. I wanted to do something special and I wanted it to be very meaningful. Each girl has made a huge impact in my life in some way and I wanted to make sure and convey this to them.

I knew I could always digitally design a card. That's what I do most of the time, but that still just wasn't good enough for me. I wanted each card to show my personal touch. So, I sketched something in my sketchbook and made the decision to create the card out of different kinds of decorative paper. This isn't something I do too often, but I have made many scrapbooks growing up. I took a trip to Michael's and picked out some paper. I chose papers that were made up of the colors I want to include in my wedding. After I put all of the cards together, I attached a typed letter to each. Each letter said something different to each girl. It was a fun experience and it feels good to have let each girl know how special she is to me.

Like I said, my family believes in me...

Christmas cards for all family members!

They really wanted to help me get my foot out the door. Each family member had me design a Christmas card for them. It was a great opportunity for me. This task forced me to begin the process that I had dreamed about more than actually put in effect. I found a great printing company. I made a logo and printed it on the back of every card with my contact information. All my family had to do was send them out. My hope was that each person who got the card would see my logo on the back and think of me the next time he or she needed their own greeting card designed.

So, if you're one of those people who got it... don't forget about me! Here are a few of the cards I created.

To make a short story, long...

I grew up in a town where creativity is a must in order to keep busy. Henderson, Texas isn't your typical town of attractions. Whether I was building a fort outside with imaginary elevators or pretending to be a mermaid in my swimming pool, I truly had a mind of my own. Having two older sisters, who were too old to play with me, might have had something to do with it too. My mom gets credit as well. She's an amazing artist. I used to steal her old sketchbooks and draw all over the pages. I probably ruined them, but I wanted to be just as good as her.

Fast forward to 2009. I have now graduated from TCU and have held two jobs since then. Both gave me opportunities to explore my creative side and for that I am thankful. I left the first job in order to get closer to my first love, invitation design. The new job didn't give me much opportunity to design, but I was learning a lot about another important technique, typesetting. Unfortunately, that job was short lived. I was laid off in October, due to the bad economy. On the day I left that company, the CFO said to me, "We don't sell food." He was right. Invitations are not essential to our lives, but I can't just walk away from something I love so much. As heartbroken as I was to leave that job, I know God has a plan for me. Continuing on as a Typesetter just wasn't it.

The week I was laid off, my parents were gracious enough to buy me a brand new iMac with all the design programs I need to continue exploring my passion. I think they believe in me and that's an amazing feeling. I do not have another steady paying job. But, I do have a job, and that is to learn anything and everything about this passion of mine; to explore the creativity I have to offer. And along the way, hopefully people will see how important it is to me.

I hope you will take a few seconds to look at some of my work and the different projects I have been working on. And, if you like my work and need invitations, announcements, or stationery, shoot me an email. I'd love to create a special card just for you! If you're still not convinced, all I can ask is that you at least take a chance on me. I will do my best to make you a happy customer!
